Unstoppable Love

Bible Passage: Romans 8

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God… If God
is for us, who can be against us? (vv. 28, 31)
OPEN: Several years ago, a freshman at Eagle Rock Junior High won rst prize at the Greater Idaho
Falls Science Fair with a scientic survey that he conducted. In his project he urged people to sign a
petition demanding strict control or total elimination of a chemical known as “Dihydrogen monoxide”
because:
1. It can cause excessive sweating and vomiting.
2. It is a major component in acid rain.
3. It can cause severe burns in its gaseous state.
4. Accidental inhalation can kill you.
5. It contributes to erosion.
6. It decreases the effectiveness of automobile brakes.
7. It has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients.
Then he asked 50 people if they support a ban of this particular chemical.
43 said yes 6 were undecided
And only one knew that the chemical is … water. (2 molecules of Hydrogen/ 1 of oxygen)

APPLY: When you know the answer, the question seems silly.
Water isn’t really dangerous.
Granted it is a major component in acid rain (it’s the rain)
And when it’s in its gaseous state (steam) it can cause severe burns
And if you accidentally inhale it, you can drown.
All of those statements were true. And if you didn’t know any better, you might be afraid of
Dihydrogen monoxide”. You might ask for this chemical to be either eliminated or controlled by the
FDA. You might become afraid of water… that is… IF you didn’t know any better. But when you know
better, the fear seems irrational.
In today’s text, we nd that Paul is addressing people who have an irrational fear of God.
• They’re afraid that God hates them.
• They’re afraid God is just waiting to judge them for their sins and destroy them
• They’re afraid He wants to rob them of the joys of life.
• And they’re afraid that when life turns sour… He’ll up and leave them/ He’ll walk away.

Paul’s objective in this chapter is to get Christians to realize that that’s not true.
He wants them to see that, if they only knew better, that fear would seem as foolish as the fear of
Dihydrogen monoxide.
God’s Unstoppable Love is demonstrated by:
1.His provision for us (v. 32)
Dispozisyon li pou nou
32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with
him, graciously give us all things?
• When God wanted to intervene in the world and the life of mankind, He looked all around Heaven
and chose the greatest thing He had to offer: His Son Jesus
• So what makes us think He is not capable of providing for us?
James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the
heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Psalm 121:1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from
the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
• God’s provisions are perfect and enough
• If He is withholding something, it’s because He knows what’s best for you.
A freshman was checking into his college dorm and as he nished unloaded everything, was
eager to start this new life of freedom. So he told his parents goodbye and started to walk away.
His father said, “Son, before you go, I want to give you something” He handed him a brand new
Bible and said “Anytime you get in trouble, you can go to this Bible and nd help” The boy was
like “ok, thanks”, thinking in his mind, “Dad and his Bible… that may be good for him but I can
make my own way.”
After about 2 months the boy calls home and asks for money, he’s eaten more than budgeted
and running low on food. The dad asked “have you read your Bible?” the boy said, “Yes dad,
but can you send me some money?” The dad said, No son, but I’ll send you a McDonalds gift
card. Six months later the boy calls and says, “My car is acting up, can you send me some
money?” The dad says, “Have you been reading your Bible?” The boy said “YES DAD, can you
send me some money?” the father said “No son, but I’ll send your bicycle up” the boy was
furious. This went on for 4 year. Each time the dad asking the same question “Have you read
your Bible?” And the boy always responded “Yes” By the time he graduated, he was wearing
the same clothes he took to college and had wore out his bicycle, having to ride it every day.
At graduation, his father said, “son, where is your Bible?” the now young man dug through
his stu and underneath all his clothes was the Bible he had been given, still looking brand new.
The father took one look at it, then handed it back to him and said “Since you never used it,
here’s your graduation present” The son looked at his father and sarcastically said “thanks”.
The father said “SON, open the Bible!” The young man opened the Bible for the rst time and 2
small envelops fell out. He opened the rst envelop and the card read “If you ever need food,
attached is a cashiers check for $5,000. Use it wisely and become the man I know you can be.
The young man was shocked! He quickly open the second and the card read “If you ever have

car trouble or need clothes, attached is a cashiers check for $10,000. Use it wisely and become
the man I know you can be.
tweetable: God’s provisions are perfect, we just have to accept them

God’s Unstoppable Love is demonstrated by:
2. His justication of us (v. 33)
jistikasyon li pou nou
33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justies.
• What is justication? Briey, it is the judicial act by which God declares sinful men and women to
be in a right standing before him, not on the basis of our own merit, for we have none, but on the
basis of what Jesus Christ has done for us by dying in our place on the cross. Justication
doesn’t mean we are not guilty
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
• Justication means our guilt will not be held against us, because it was held against our Savior,
Jesus, when He was being beaten and crucied on the cross. The cross I/we deserved
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died
for us.
Illustration:
Two college roommates graduated and took very different paths in life. The one become a judge
while the other a repeat criminal. One day the criminal appeared before the judge, the evidence was
compelling and the judge had no choice but to nd his friend guilty on all counts. When it come time
for sentencing, the judge sentenced his friend to prison, but before they could haul the friend off, the
judge stepped down from his bench, took off his robe and accepted the sentence for his friend, letting
his friend go free.
• That my friends, is authentic love
• That is exactly what Jesus did for us
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
• Jesus stepped down from Heaven, took off His royal robe and accepted the sentence of the
Cross for us
tweetable: We have been given a guilty verdict, but God loves us so much, He nailed his
innocent Son to the cross for our justication.
