Bible Passage: I Corinthians 12:1
I. God doesn’t want you to be ignorant about the things of the Spirit.“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant”!(1 Corinthians 12:1).!•It’s essential to know and understand the Holy Spirit and why we should be ﬁlled!With the Holy Spirit.!II. Reason 1 why believers should pray in other tongues is that tongues are the initial evidenceof the inﬁlling of the Holy Spirit.!•“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in!One place. And suddenly, there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and itﬁlled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues likeas of ﬁre, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all ﬁlled with the Holy Ghost, and beganto speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:1-4).!o Speaking in tongues is the outward manifestation of the inward force of the Holy Spirit.!o It is the initial sign of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.!•It is supernatural evidence of the Spirit’s indwelling.!o “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter,because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heardthem speak with tongues, and magnify God” (Acts 10:44-46).!o Paul asked certain disciples if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed (see Acts19:1-6).!•They said they had not heard of the Holy Spirit. They had been baptized!Into John’s baptism.!•Paul said, “John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying!Unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after!him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”!•When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of The LORD Jesus.!o First, when they heard that Jesus was the One who was coming, they were saved.!o Second, they were ﬁlled with the Holy Spirit—they spoke in tongues and prophesied.!•“And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and theyspake with tongues, and prophesied.”!III. Simon, the former magician, wanted to purchase the ability to impart the inﬁlling of the HolySpirit (Acts 8:9-24).!The Holy Spirit is not for sale.•Simon saw signs—miracles and devils cast out—so he believed and was!
Baptized.!•“And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy!Ghost was given, he oﬀered them money, saying, Give me also this power, that onwhomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost”!(Acts 8:18-19).!o He “saw” the Spirit imparted.!o He tried to buy it!!•The Baptism in the Holy Spirit provides an inner power that becomes an!Outward force to bring the realities of Jesus to others.!God wants you to be ﬁlled with the Spirit. God has done everything for you except thereceiving part. You have to do that. The words in other tongues will come.!You can be ﬁlled with the Holy Spirit! Let’s do it!!Pray with us:!“Heavenly Father, I ask You according to Acts 19:6, to ﬁll me with Your Holy Spirit. I have beenborn again, and now I want this precious gift You oﬀer. In Jesus’ Name, I receive the Holy Spiritwith the evidence of speaking in tongues. Amen.”!Now speak! The Holy Spirit will give you a new language.
