Bible Passage: Ruth 2

“Don’t Settle for a Bozo: Wait for Your Boaz”
(Ruth 2:1–23)
So many are praying for a good man, but not every man
that shows up is a Boaz.
Some are just bozos—clowns in disguise.
Today, we’ll learn from Ruth 2 what makes Boaz stand
out—and how to recognize the difference between a man
of God and a man playing games.
Background on Ruth
Ruth was a Moabite widow who remained loyal to her
mother-in-law, Naomi.
In chapter 2, she goes out to glean in the fields to provide
food, and “happens” to land in the field of Boaz, a
wealthy, respected, God-fearing man.
This encounter changed her life forever—but it started
with her character and his.
What Made Boaz Different?
1. Boaz Was a Man of Character – Not a Clown of Chaos
(Ruth 2:1)
• Boaz was a man of standing, wealthy and respected.
• He had integrity in his business and was trusted in the
community.
• A clown seeks attention.
• Boaz sought to serve.
2. Boaz Noticed Her Worth – Not Just Her Looks
(Ruth 2:5–11)
• He asked, “Who is that young woman?” but didn’t
just stop at attraction.
• He inquired about her story, her sacrifice, and her
heart.
• A Bozo is only concerned about the body.
• A Boaz is drawn to your soul.
3. Boaz Covered Her – Not Played Her
(Ruth 2:8–9)
• He protected her by telling the men not to touch her.
• He made sure she had water, food, and a safe place to
glean.
• A Bozo manipulates.
• A Boaz covers and provides.
4. Boaz Spoke Blessing – Not Nonsense
(Ruth 2:12)
• He prayed a blessing over Ruth and honored her
choices.
• His words lifted her up.
• A Bozo tells jokes.
• A Boaz speaks life.
5. Boaz Gave Generously – Not Grudgingly
Gruduling really doesn’t just me unwilling but more about needing a return
(Ruth 2:14–16)
• He fed her at his table and left extra for her to glean.
• A Bozo is stingy, flashy, and fake generous.
• Boaz gives out of abundance and care.

Quick Comparison: Boaz vs. Bozo
What Can We Learn?
• Be like Ruth—a woman of loyalty, humility, and
faith.
• Wait on your Boaz—God knows where he is.
• Don’t give time, energy, or heart space to clowns—
they waste your harvest.
Lord, give insight to discern!
