The Kingdom Jesus Introduced
When people heard Jesus speak about the Kingdom, they expected a political kingdom that would overthrow Rome.
But Jesus later told Pilate:
John 18:36 – “My kingdom is not of this world.”
Jesus’ Kingdom is different. It has no geographic boundaries, no political capital, and no earthly army.
Instead, it is a kingdom ruled by a gracious King who changes hearts.
Matthew 5:9
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Jesus teaches that true happiness belongs to those who actively create peace.
The Reality of Conflict in Our World
Research shows that:
• 23 nations are currently at war
• 43 nations currently experience civil war or major conflict
For example:
• Over 14,000 civilians have died in the Russia–Ukraine conflict
• Nearly 14 million people have been displaced
Conflict affects millions of lives around the world.
The Root of Conflict
James 4:1
“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?”
According to Scripture, conflict begins in the human heart.
This applies to nations, marriages, families, churches, and workplaces.
Conflict at Home
Statistics show that approximately 2,000 divorces occur every day in America.
Think about the speed of that:
• During a 90-second wedding ceremony, three couples divorce somewhere.
• By the time a wedding reception ends, 430 couples will divorce.
• During a single church service, about 86 couples will divorce.
Behind those numbers are real people experiencing heartbreak, loneliness, and broken families.
The Good News
Jesus is called the Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given… and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
His Kingdom includes an army of peacemakers in homes, workplaces, churches, and communities.
Two Types of Peace We Make
- Helping People Find Peace With God
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 explains that believers have been given the ministry of reconciliation.
We are Christ’s ambassadors, helping people find peace with God through Jesus.
We do this by sharing the gospel, praying for people, inviting them to church, and sharing our testimony.
- Making Peace in Human Relationships
The Holy Spirit helps believers navigate conflict and bring healing to relationships.
Three Types of People in Conflict
Peace Breakers
People who escalate conflict with anger and arguments.
Peace Fakers
People who avoid conflict and pretend problems do not exist.
Peacemakers
People who rely on the wisdom of God and work toward reconciliation.
Three Biblical Principles for Peacemaking
- Overlook Minor Offenses
Proverbs 19:11 – “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.” - Ask God for Wisdom
James 3:17 – “The wisdom that comes from heaven is first pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit.” - Do Everything Possible to Live in Peace
Romans 12:18 – “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
Ask yourself:
• Am I a peace breaker?
• Am I a peace faker?
• Or am I a peacemaker?
Take one step this week toward reconciliation with someone in your life.
- Pray for someone who needs peace with God.
Write down one name and pray for that person daily for one month.
- Take one step toward reconciliation in a strained relationship.
