Is defined as God’s unmerited favor and love toward humanity. It represents the kindness and mercy that God extends to individuals, particularly in the context of salvation.
- In biblical terms, grace is often associated with the idea of receiving blessings that are not earned or deserved, emphasizing God’s benevolence and forgiveness. This concept is foundational in Christian theology, illustrating that salvation is a gift from God rather than a result of human effort
God’s Grace is a gift; it is different than a loan. With a gift, nothing is owed in return. A gift is free to the recipient, although it is not free to the giver, who bears the expense of the gift. That expense was paid by Jesus who died in our place. Once the gift is given, it is ours forever and works in our life.
Romans 11:2-6 (New King James Version)
“God has not cast away His people whom he foreknew (Israel). Or do you not know what the scripture says of Elijah? How he pleads with God against Israel, saying, Lord, they have killed Your prophets, and torn down Your altars; and I alone am left, and they seek my life? But what does the Devine response from God say to him? I have reserved to Myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal. Even so then, at this present time (today)also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then is it no longer of works; otherwise, grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, then is it no longer of grace; otherwise, work is no longer of works.”
- Grace is receiving blessings that are not earned or deserved, emphasizing God’s benevolence and forgiveness. Not earned nor deserved.
James 4:6
“But He gives more grace. Therefore, He says God resist the proud, but gives grace to the humble”.
In other words, God’s grace is given to those who know they don’t deserve it and acknowledge that their works do not qualify them for His grace.
Where did God’s grace come from?
John 1:14-17(KJV)
“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father;) full of grace and truth. John bear witness of him, and cried, saying This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
As Christians we are not under the law of Moses, but under the law of Grace. Grace came by Jesus Christ. His sacrifice for our sins, ushered in God’s Grace for us through belief in His Son.
Romans 6:14
“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace”
Ephesians 2:4-9
“But God, so is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewithal he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved😉 and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places, in Christ Jesus; that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
