2 Corinthians 5:1 (KJV)
“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
To help believers understand:
– This life is temporary
– Our real home is eternal
– Jesus has made promises about our future
Have you ever rented a house or apartment or a hotel room?
Renters are temporary occupants, while owners have permanence and investment.
Spiritual Parallel:
– Our bodies are temporary dwellings
– Heaven is our permanent home
We are not meant to stay here forever—this life is a sojourn, not a settlement.
I. We Have a Future Home
John 14:1–3 (KJV)
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
Jesus promised a prepared place. Heaven is real, and our hope is anchored beyond this life.
II. We Will Receive a New Body
1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 (KJV)
“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 15:50–57 (KJV)
“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Our current body is temporary, but our future body will be glorified and eternal.
III. Heaven Is a Prepared Place Without Suffering
Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Revelation 21:18–22:5 (KJV excerpt)
“And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones.
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life…
And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it…
And they shall see his face…
And there shall be no night there… and they shall reign for ever and ever.”
Heaven is a place with no pain, no death, and no sorrow.
IV. Jesus Will Personally Receive Us
Death for the believer is immediate entrance into Christ’s presence. You will see Jesus.
You will experience perfect love, complete healing, and full acceptance.
V. There Is Only One Way to Heaven
John 14:6 (KJV)
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 3:16–18 (KJV)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Salvation is through Christ alone.
This body is temporary—we are renters.
Heaven is permanent—we will be homeowners.
Jesus has prepared a place, promised a new body, removed suffering, and made a way.
Live with eternity in mind, not temporary comfort.
“I’ve got a new home over in glory—and it’s mine, mine, mine!”
